A teen-age boy suffered catastrophic injuries in a train derailment. Railroad worker receives $1.1 million jury award

A railroad worker fell from a wooden platform, fracturing his pelvis and spine, while replacing a 700-pound locomotive part. The Edmund Fitzgerald, a large tanker, sank in a storm on Lake Superior, killing all on board. This new information allowed the firm to negotiate a more favorable settlement of claims on behalf of crew members’ families.
 

Tire manufacturing defect exposed

An 18-year-old Eagle Scout injured on a camping trip was left a quadriplegic when the car in which he was riding crashed following a tire blowout. A large jury verdict was returned against the tire manufacturer in one of the first cases exposing defects in one of its tires.
